The Greenwich Expert Patients Programme provides free self-management courses for anybody caring for someone with a long-term condition or living with a long-term health condition. Courses offer you the opportunity to develop the confidence and skills necessary to manage long-term conditions on a day-to-day basis.
As an expert patient you can:
Feel confident and in control of your life
Aim to manage your condition and its treatment with the support of healthcare professionals
Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and be willing to share responsibility for treatment
Be realistic about how your condition affects them and their family
Uses your skills and knowledge to lead a full life.
Courses typically run over six weeks, structured as a two-and-a-half hour session each week.
Parents courses – ‘Supporting Parents’
This course is for parents of children who live with a long-term health condition or disability. It is a place to share experiences and ways of managing and looks at how to care for the carer. The course also explores the impact of childhood illness or disability on the whole family and ways of finding meaning in the experience.
